What we did: We performed a project involving 7.5 inches of full-depth paving on the B lanes, followed by a 2.5-inch top lift on all lanes after milling. In collaboration with ODOT, we conducted a test to determine if a 5.5-inch single lift in a confined area could meet ODOT’s compaction rates and ridability standards. We found that using multiple lifts allowed for proper compaction. The process was successfully completed with a rubber tire roller and an ODOT-approved rolling pattern. This approach likely shortened the project duration by approximately 15 days, allowing all lanes to be reopened to the public sooner.
